Case Study

Objective

The primary objective was to edit and structure hundreds of hours of raw footage from a fast-paced, multi-continental journey into a cohesive and engaging 8-part miniseries. The core challenge was to capture the high-energy, luxurious, and often chaotic nature of the trip while maintaining a professional standard that would retain and captivate a YouTube audience. The final product needed to reflect a premium viewing experience, aligning with the high-end culinary and travel destinations featured.

Process

As the post-production editor, my role was to transform the unedited footage into a polished and compelling narrative. The process was managed in distinct phases to ensure consistency and quality across all eight episodes.

  1. The initial step involved organizing extensive raw footage from multiple locations, including London, Dubai, and Tokyo. I established a meticulous workflow to categorize clips by location, day, and activity, which was crucial for building a coherent narrative structure for each episode.

  2. I carefully reviewed all footage to identify the strongest story arcs and key moments. The editing was paced to reflect the "chaotic" theme, utilizing dynamic cuts, energetic music, and a rhythm that mirrored the hosts' fast-paced journey. The goal was to create a "lean-forward" viewing experience that held the audience's attention from start to finish.

  3. To create a vibrant, cinematic, and aspirational look, all footage underwent professional color grading. The visual tone was calibrated to make the culinary dishes appear appetizing and the luxury locations feel exclusive. A consistent color profile was maintained across all episodes to ensure a cohesive brand identity for the series.

  4. Audio quality was paramount. The process involved cleaning dialogue, mixing audio levels, and incorporating sound effects to enhance comedic and dramatic beats. A curated soundtrack of modern, high-energy music was selected and licensed to drive the pace and complement the visual storytelling.

  5. To enhance the narrative and provide context, I designed and integrated on-screen graphics, including episode titles, lower thirds for location and host identification, and subtle visual elements that guided the viewer through the journey. Google Earth Studio and OpenStreetMap was heavily used to create 3D map animations in After Effects that would create an engaging story and clearly convey where in the world each part took place.

Outcome

The project concluded with the successful delivery of an 8-part, professionally polished YouTube miniseries that effectively chronicled the journey. The final series captured the adventurous and luxurious spirit of the trip, providing the Jacob Jørgsholm channel with high-quality, engaging content that resulted in one of the most successful Danish miniseries on the platform.

Garnering significant acclaim, the series was nominated for Best Collab at the prestigious Danish YouTube awards, Simba Prisen.
